After cutting the Atlanta Falcons down to 53 players on Friday, coach Mike Smith filled out the eight-man practice squad this past weekend.
Seven of the team’s eight players spent time with the Falcons this preseason.
The lone new player signed was S Mark LeGree , a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2011. LeGree had four tackles in two games this preseason after being signed by the Chicago Bears on Aug. 20.
The other seven players are LBPat Schiller, TE Chase Coffmann, WR Drew Davis, T Bryce Harris, WR Marcus Jackson, CB Peyton Thompson and DT Micanor Regis.
The Falcons contemplated signing WR James Rodgers, the brother of third-string RB Jacquizz Rodgers but decided against it.
All the players signed had productive preseasons, but Schiller and Thompson were the two standouts on defense. In the last preseason game, a 24-14 loss to Jacksonville, the two combined for 15 tackles and Schiller recorded one tackle for loss.
Jackson also shined in the Falcons’ second preseason game when he recorded 3 catches for 40 yards. He was targeted six times in the loss to Cincinnati.
Healthy bodies back: Falcons backup RB Jason Snelling will practice for the first since missing the majority of preseason with a right leg injury. He’ll be a major asset to the running game, which struggled this preseason. Snelling had 44 attempts for 151 yards last season.
The team also will welcome back CB Chris Owens, who missed significant time with a hamstring injury. The fourth-year defensive back from San Jose State had 35 tackles last season and is expected to contribute on special teams this season.
