The final defendant accused of the murder of former Redskins safety Sean Taylor pleaded guilty for his role in the crime on Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald.
Timmy Lee Brown, 23, received an 18-year prison sentence following his guilty plea. Over seven years after Taylor was murdered in his Miami home during a botched burglary, all five people responsible have now gone through the legal system. All are serving prison time.
"I’m just glad it’s over. Everyone can move with their lives," Taylor’s father, Florida City police chief Pete Taylor, said. "It’s time for healing."
Last week, Charles Wardlow pleaded guilty and was given a 30-year prison sentence. Eric Rivera, who fatally shot Taylor, went to trial and was found guilty. He's serving a sentence of 57 years. Venjah Hunte pleaded guilty years ago and is serving a 29-year sentence.
Jason Mitchell, the crime's mastermind, was found guilty at trial and received a life sentence.
Mitchell, Wardlow, Brown, Hunte and Rivera broke into Taylor's Miami home in November of 2007 with the intent of robbing it since they believed he was not in town. However, Taylor was at his home with his girlfriend and baby daughter
Rivera broke into the master bedroom and Taylor defended himself with a machete he kept for protection. That's when Rivera shot and killed Taylor.
Taylor was a standout safety in college at the University of Miami. This led to him being selected by the Redskins with the fifth overall pick in the 2004 draft. Taylor was named to the 2006 Pro Bowl and was posthumously named to the 2007 Pro Bowl. He totaled 299 tackles, 12 interceptions and two sacks in 55 career NFL games.
