Gregg Williams isn't done coaching. Despite an indefinite suspension from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for Williams' role in the Saints bounty scandal, the former New Orleans' defensive coordinator said Friday that he'll be back.

"I will coach again," Williams told ESPN's Elizabeth Merrill during an appearance at a charity golf event. He wasn't interested in speaking about the ongoing bounty investigation. He said the day was "all about the kids," a reference to the Gregg Williams Foundation's annual golf outing, which has raised close to $1 million for the children of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Williams' hometown.

In March, a day after the NFL revealed the Saints' pay-for-performance program, Williams, then the defensive coordinator for the Rams, issued an apology for his involvement.

“I want to express my sincere regret and apology to the NFL, Mr. Benson, and the New Orleans Saints fans for my participation in the 'pay for performance' program while I was with the Saints," he said at the time in a statement released by the Rams. "It was a terrible mistake, and we knew it was wrong while we were doing it. Instead of getting caught up in it, I should have stopped it."

Williams didn't stop it, of course, and the league eventually suspended him -- indefinitely.

In late May, Goodell said that he was confident that bounties will no longer be an issue, presumably because of the swift, severe sanctions levied against the Saints.

The actions taken by the league "speak very loudly," he said at the time. "I heard that from our clubs, from our personnel. They recognize it's not part of the game. It doesn't need to be part of the game. And I don't think it's going to be an issue going forward."

Williams' path back to the NFL will almost certainly hinge on his cooperation during the bounty investigation. Goodell has previously reinstated Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress, so the door hasn't been closed on Williams' return. When and if it happens, however, one thing is clear: it will be on Goodell's terms.
