Despite putting up one of his best NFL seasons with the Houston Texans in 2018, running back Lamar Miller became an afterthought in 2019. The former Miami Dolphins fourth-round pick tore his ACL during Houston's third preseason game, which caused him to miss the entire season. The Texans then traded for Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson -- who took over as the Texans' running backs in 2019.
Miller is now a free agent, and with the Texans' acquiring former Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson this offseason, there's no guarantee that Houston is interested in re-signing the 29-year-old. Miller did a bit of PR work for himself on Thursday, as he posted a video of himself going through workouts with what appears to be a fully-healed knee.
As you can tell, Miller apparently has no issue running and cutting, but it still remains to be seen if he has retained the same game speed that allowed him to rush for 1,073 yards just four seasons ago. There also remains the question of who would be interested in Miller?
If he is indeed 100 percent healthy, Miller will be able to come in and make an immediate impact for a team, but he does have some competition in the running back market. Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy, Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell are still available, and Raheem Mostert recently requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. While Miller may not be the most talented back on the open market, Freeman is looking for decent money and Mostert has made it clear he would like a bump in salary. That makes Miller more appealing as a backup running back since he may be willing to take a cheaper deal.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it's been hard for players to travel and get checked out by team doctors. With this video, Miller is at least showing that he's comfortable with the shape he is currently in.
