How do the Giants replace Victor Cruz? Quarterback Eli Manning said the team must move on and figure out its best lineups without Cruz, who tore his patella tendon Sunday night at Philadelphia.
"What are going to be our best formations? What are going to be our best ways of putting people in position to do what they do best that will help out the team?" Manning told the team's website. "We have to be smart and creative with that and make sure guys, when they are on the field, are going to be able to play fast and know exactly what they are doing."
Coach Tom Coughlin called Cruz "a very, very, positive and popular young man who has meant an awful lot to this franchise. Just by virtue of his work ethic and the fact that he is a Pro Bowl playmaker. It is another test for the team. I was going to say the offensive side of the ball, but really for our team."
Cruz ranked third on the team with 23 catches for 337 yards and a touchdown. The website said Rueben Randle unofficially becomes the No. 1 receiver with rookie Odell Beckham Jr., Preston Parker and untested Corey Washington also helping fill the void.
"I think Preston Parker has demonstrated he can play inside, and he can play outside," Coughlin said. "The issue with Preston Parker has been the ball security issue, but as far as his learning multiple positions, he has done that. Corey Washington has played basically on the outside and has done a pretty good job of learning. He practices throughout the week with multiple reps, whatever day it might be. Even in a two-minute drill, he takes reps. He has had multiple opportunities to work."
