Giants' Terrell Thomas underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on Sunday and the results were not what the New York Giants wanted to hear.

The veteran cornerback, who is coming off his second ACL surgery on his right knee last September, has an injury to his right knee “involving the ACL,” according to a release by the team.

Doctors will likely do an exploratory surgery to determine the extent of the injury, but nothing has officially been decided yet.

"Terrell re-injured his ACL,” said Giants senior vice president of medical services Ronnie Barnes. “At this point, he will most likely undergo an arthroscopic procedure to determine the extent of the injury to the ACL. However, no decision has been made at this point. Terrell is going to consult with Dr. (Arthur) Ting, who performed an allograft reconstruction of the ACL in September.”

Thomas had just returned from a sore back to practice on Sunday when he slipped and subsequently spent the rest of the session icing his surgically repaired right knee.

Thomas told coach Tom Coughlin that he felt fine after Sunday’s practice, but the knee swelled up and the team decided to send him to Dr. Russell Warren for precautionary reasons.

As it turned out, that was a smart decision.
