Rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley of the Giants had a memorable performance in the 26-3 preseason victory over the New York Jets on Saturday, but he ended the game with a protective boot on his right foot.
In a conference call with the media on Sunday, coach Tom Coughlin said Hosley has a toe issue, adding that the third-round pick is going to be sore.
Hosley only played seven snaps on Saturday -- although one of them ended with him returning a Mark Sanchez pass 77 yards for a touchdown -- but Coughlin said he’s not sure when or how the injury occurred. It could have happened as Hosley was high-stepping into the end zone (he appeared to drag his foot in the end zone), but that’s not definite.
Running back Ahmad Bradshaw ended the game with his right hand in a compression sock. Coughlin said team doctors are calling the injury a “contusion,” and the X-rays that were taken came back negative.
After the game Bradshaw said he had a cyst on his hand that burst, causing his hand to swell.
“It’s nothing serious,” Bradshaw said. “During one of the runs, I hit it on someone’s helmet, and it just popped and there was a little pain in it.”
Defensive end Adrian Tracy (hamstring) and linebacker Mark Herzlich (hip pointer) each left Saturday’s game early as well. Coughlin said “they’ll be sore,” but he’s hoping they can play through the pain to return to the field as quickly as possible. “They need to get back on the field and they both know it,” Coughlin said.
Herzlich -- who told CBSSports.com that he may have been hurt when colliding with a teammate on Saturday -- and Tracy are each battling for position on the depth chart. Coughlin did not have any timetable for his players’ returns.
