The Giants announced Ann Mara, the team's matriarch, died Sunday at the age of 85.
Mara was often referred to as 'The First Lady of Football' and was married to former Giants owner Wellington Mara, who died in 2005.
"I am sad to say that our mother has passed away," John Mara said, Ann's son and the Giants' president and chief executive officer. "She has been the leader of our family in every way, and we will miss her dearly."
Ann Mara had been in the hospital since suffering a head injury Jan. 18 after she slipped on ice outside her home in Rye, NY.
"She loved her family, and all of us were able to spend time with her in these final days," John Mara said. "All 11 of her children and our spouses and numerous grandchildren were with her when she passed away."
Along with her family, Ann Mara owned 50 percent of the Giants and was a passionate supporter of the team, rarely missing a game over the last 60 years.
