The New York Giants are taking a flier on a former first-round pick. On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Giants are signing offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson to a practice squad deal. Wilson was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but off-field issues have derailed his career up to this point.
Before his NFL career could start, Wilson received a trespass warning while attending a party in August and then was arrested for DUI about three weeks later. He had multiple stints on the reserve/COVID-19 list and then was suspended by the Titans for violating club rules late in the year. The Titans traded Wilson to the Miami Dolphins in March, but they released him just days later.
Wilson is apparently set on earning a second chance at an NFL career, as he worked out for the Indianapolis Colts this month and now has earned a practice squad deal with the Giants. He has played just four snaps in his career, but the former Georgia Bulldog has potential and the Giants need bodies on the offensive front.
The Giants have three offensive linemen on injured reserve -- the most recent being former starters Nick Gates and Shane Lemieux. Gates suffered a season-ending lower leg fracture in Week 2 against Washington, while Lemieux tried to play through a patellar tendon injury but opted to undergo season-ending surgery after playing in just one game.
