Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City after his surgically repaired right knee swelled up between Sunday and Monday practices. Thomas slipped at one point on Sunday and subsequently sat out while icing his knee.
Coach Tom Coughlin said Thomas claimed to be feeling better, but when the swelling failed to go down, they took precautions.
“He came in this morning with a swollen knee,” Coughlin said. “Went down to HSS. I don’t know where they’re at. I haven’t heard the results.”
The Giants expected to have an update early Monday evening.
Thomas' right knee has been operated on twice, the first time coming while he was at USC and the second occurring during the 2011 preseason. He had hoped to regain his starting spot in 2012 after signing a new deal.
In Thomas’ place, Prince Amukamara practiced with the first-team defense and looked particularly sharp, breaking up two of Eli Manning’s passes.
