Giants vs. Washington score: New York's defense finally gets Joe Judge into the win column

The New York Giants recorded their first victory of the 2020 season, as they took down the Washington Football Team, 20-19. As the final score indicates, it was a defensive matchup from beginning to end, and it was actually the Giants defense that secured this win. Kyle Allen was able to tie the game with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Cam Sims with less than a minute left to play, but Ron Rivera's gamble to go for two points ended up costing Washington the game.

Daniel Jones finished with 112 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception. It marked the first time he had thrown a touchdown since the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also led the Giants in rushing yards with 74 on seven carries. Allen had an impressive performance, as he threw for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He was able to rebound nicely after his first interception, but couldn't find the open wideout in the end zone during the two-point conversion attempt with the game on the line.

Why the Giants won

The Giants defense wasn't perfect, but it was the reason they won on Sunday. They held Washington to just 19 points, picked off Allen in the first half and then forced the fumble which led to the eventual game-winning score.

While they did give up a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive at the end of the fourth quarter, the Giants stopped Allen from completing a pass during the two-point conversion attempt. Put simply, that's what got the Giants into the win column for the first time this year.

Why Washington lost

Turnovers. The Washington Football Team lost in Week 6 because of turnovers. Every possession is precious over the course of a game, but when you're engaged in a slugfest and both teams aren't putting up many points, each possession is even more important. Allen's interception was bad, but his fumble was actually the game-winning score for the other team. Allen and really Washington as a whole had a chance to make a statement with an upset victory this week, but instead the Football Team suffered their fifth straight loss and we can't definitively say that Allen is the right quarterback to lead this team moving forward.

Turning point

This matchup was in question all afternoon, so there was no real "turning point." I guess you have to point to the failed two-point conversion that would have won Washington the game. As soon as it became apparent Allen couldn't find an open receiver when he rolled out to the left, that was probably the first time we felt comfortable in saying that the Giants were going to win.

Play of the game

Allen wasn't perfect on Sunday, but he did complete what might have been the prettiest throw of the game during this second-quarter touchdown to Logan Thomas. Take a second to watch the multiple angles in this video and see what Thomas did with his feet.

What's next

Washington returns to Maryland next week, and they will host another divisional rival in the Dallas Cowboys. Andy Dalton and Co. will be on a short week, as they are scheduled to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. The Giants will also be on a short week, as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on "Thursday Night Football."

Thanks for joining us! This matchup really came down to the wire. Is Kyle Allen the right starter for Washington moving forward? I'm not sure just yet. Still, he came just one completed pass away from a divisional victory here in Week 6.

That's a situation where you just have to take a sack. That's more than just a bad turnover, I think that could be the deciding factor in this matchup.

It's wild to say, but I have more faith in Kyle Allen than Daniel Jones right now....

Another long drive by Kyle Allen and Co. They may be able to steal this game away if Daniel Jones and the Giants can't get something going soon. Again, I would try to test this secondary.
