Injuries to one player generally provide opportunities for others. That has certainly been the case for Giants wide receiver Corey Washington.

The second-year receiver out of Division II Newberry College (South Carolina) did not get much of a chance to break through as a rookie. He made the team out of training camp and worked on special teams, but he took just 57 snaps on offense and caught five passes for 52 yards.

His situation has since changed. Fellow wideout Odell Beckham is out with a hamstring injury and Victor Cruz is recovering from a torn patellar tendon, leading to Washington receiving more practice reps. His work and attitude have earned praise from Tom Coughlin.

"He has had a nice spring," Coughlin told NJ.com. "He has worked hard. He has had a good attitude. He has had a smile on his face. He has done everything we have asked him to do. I think every time he has been called upon he seems to have responded."

Told of that praise, the possession receiver gave that grin to which his coach referred and spoke of his growing confidence.

"I am gaining [the trust of quarterback Eli Manning and of Coughlin] and he is throwing me out there with the ones, so I just have to continue to work and keep it up," Washington said. "Everything has slowed down now so I am getting adjusted to everything ... working on my craft and helping the team out."
