As expected, WR Hakeem Nicks (foot) and DT Marvin Austin are not playing for the New York Giants in their preseason game against the New York Jets on Saturday.
Nicks came off PUP this week and isn’t permitted to fully participate in practice until Monday. Austin said he received good news on his ailing back, but coach Tom Coughlin seemed to contradict him by saying that the second-year player needs to have more tests. It’s not certain if he’ll play in the preseason at all.
Also not playing against the Jets: CBs Terrell Thomas (knee) and Michael Coe (hamstring), TE Travis Beckum (knee, PUP), LBs Jacquian Williams (hip) and Michael Boley (hamstring), DTs Chris Canty (knee, PUP) and recently signed Marcus Thomas, as well as OT Will Beatty (back).
Beatty’s absence means Sean Locklear will likely get the start at LT. But keep an eye on RT David Diehl. If the Giants are worried about Beatty’s nagging back injury, they could move Diehl back to the blindside and move second-year tackle James Brewer into the starting lineup.
Coach Tom Coughlin said the Giants starters should play about 25 to 30 snaps. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET.
