The Jaguars were active in the free-agent market in the offseason. Here’s a look at how some of the key acquisitions are looking so far and a prediction on if they’ll be worth the money:
- WR Laurent Robinson: The Jaguars, who were last in the NFL in passing yards in 2011, signed Robinson to a five-year deal worth $32.5 million on March 14. He hasn’t gotten off to a great start in camp, according to the Florida Times-Union. The Jaguars hope Robinson can develop into a go-to WR for QB Blaine Gabbert, especially with first-round pick WR Justin Blackmon holding out.
- CB Aaron Ross: Ross left the defending Super Bowl champion Giants to join the Jaguars on March 20 after signing a three-year, $15.3 million deal. He was brought in for one main reason: to compete with veteran CB Rashean Mathis, who is recovering from a torn ACL. The value of this signing will be determined when that position battle shakes out. Even if Mathis ends up being the second CB, Ross will still have value in the nickel and dime packages.
- QB Chad Henne: The Jaguars upgraded the QB position when they signed Henne to a two-year deal on March 14. Getting a QB with 31 careers starts and still in his prime is a huge insurance policy for second-year QB Blaine Gabbert. It’s Gabbert’s job to lose in training camp, but Henne will be there to push him and could be a good second option.
