The Jaguars aren't getting enough value out of TE Marcedes Lewis.
At least that's the conclusion Forbes magazine came up with in its analysis of the most overpaid NFL players. Lewis came in fourth on the list. So far this season he has five receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown -- all of which came in the season-opening 26-23 loss at Minnesota.
He recorded no catches for the first time in the past three seasons in the Jags' 27-7 loss to the Texans on Sunday. Forbes points out that Lewis has only had one season that is truly worthy of his lofty salary, 2010. In that season, Lewis had 58 catches for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In August of 2011, he was awarded a five-year deal that could make him up to $38 million with incentives. He's due $9.6 million in 2012. He only had 39 catches for 460 yards and no touchdowns last season.
TE Stovall signed: The Jaguars third TE spot behind Lewis and his backup, Zach Potter, has been a revolving door since training camp. The most recent addition is veteran Maurice Stovall. Stovall has appeared in a total of 71 games with 11 starts in his seven-year career. He has 52 career receptions for 668 yards.
To make room for Stovall, the Jaguars released TE Stephen Spach . Spach played against the Texans on Sunday, but did not record any stats.
Injury report: T Cameron Bradfield (ankle), G Eben Britton (ankle), RB Rashad Jennings (knee), DE George Selvie (knee) and LB Daryl Smith (groin) have all missed practice this week.
CB Derek Cox (hamstring) and DE Austen Lane (foot) have been limited. QB Blaine Gabbert (glute) has been a full participant, and is still on track to start Sunday at Indianapolis.
0-3 a new coach trend: The Jaguars (0-2) have only started out a season 0-3 twice, once in 1995 and once in 2003. Both of those teams had first-year coaches, Tom Coughlin in 1995 and Jack Del Rio in 2003.
