Mularkey surprises team, fans with Olympic viewing: Coach Mike Mularkey surprised the team and the nearly 1,200 fans in attendance at the team’s open practice on Sunday with an Olympics viewing party. There was no synchronized diving or trampoline on the big screen at EverBank Field -- the main event was the women’s 400-meter sprint. The winner of that event was Sanya Richards-Ross, the wife of Jags’ CB Aaron Ross.

"Well, that was a good way to finish practice,'' Mularkey told the Florida Times-Union. "That was a neat experience for the players. I don't think any of them knew [in advance she won]. The fans did a great job. I think that brought us a little closer as a team. It felt good to be out here to watch it. We're all proud of her, very proud of her.''

Ross, who is battling veteran Rashean Mathis for a starting CB job, was excused from camp for the weekend to see his wife run. He is expected to return to training camp this week.

G injuries taking a toll: Injuries continue to pile up on the Jags’ OL. Starting G Will Rackley (ankle) still has an expected 3-4 weeks of recovery time after being injured last week. Now, G Jason Spitz is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a sprained foot, according to the team’s official website.

With two those two out, undrafted rookie free agent Mike Brewster will move to G for the time being. Mularkey also said they will give undrafted rookie DT Drew Nowak a look at G.

“He’s got something to him,” Mularkey told the team’s official website. “I love the way he came to this camp. “He’s way down the list behind a lot of good players at defensive tackle and we want our guys to have a chance to make the team so we’re moving him over.”

Monroe back: While the depth at G is thin due to injury, the Jaguars did get some good news on T Eugene Monroe. He returned to practice on Sunday after being extremely limited in his first week of camp with knee issues.

Mularkey said they will still keep a close eye on him, but he does expect him to play in the first preseason game against the Giants on Friday, according to the team’s official website.
