The Jaguars (1-8, 1-2 AFC South) had another abysmal performance at home in a 27-10 loss to the Colts (6-3, 2-1 AFC South).
The opponants change, but the results have been the same every week at home for the Jaguars. They have now been outscored 153-44 at EverBank Field this season. Few had high expectations for Jacksonville this season, but its inability to even be competitive at home is extremely frustrating for the team.
"We're trying to overcome ourselves," coach Mike Mularkey said after the game. "We have to overcome ourselves. When we do that, we'll start winning games."
That about sums it up.
Offense: D
RB Maurice Jones-Drew had 193 all-purpose yards when the Jaguars beat the Colts 22-17 in Week 3. That production was sorely missed on Thursday night. The Jaguars couldn't find much of a rhythm in the run or the pass game. WR Cecil Shorts, who has emerged as the team's No. 1 WR, had a nice night with six catches for 105 yards and a TD, but outside of that it's hard to find a lot of positives. Turnovers, penalties and other mental errors stalled any progress the offense made. Previous game's grade: C-
Defense: C-
Like the offense, the defense made too many mistakes. The most glaring example was DT Terrance Knighton being flagged for roughing the passer and nullifying a first-half INT by CB Aaron Ross. The Colts had 359 yards of total offense. That's not a crushing number, but the Jaguars struggled to get stops in the red zone when they needed them. Colts QB Andrew Luck, who passed for 433 yards last week, surprised the Jags by running in two TDs. S Dawan Landry had an interception and DE Austen Lane receovered a fumble. Previous game's grade: D
Special teams: C
You know it's bad when even the special teams doesn't get a good grade for Jacksonville. K Josh Scobee missed his first FG of the season, ending a run of 20 straight made. Had he hit that 44-yard attempt, he would've set a Jacksonville record for consecutive FGs made. P Bryan Anger averaged 47.2 yards on five attempts. The return game continues to be very bland. The Jaguars haven't had many big plays in that department all season. Previous game's grade: B
Coaching: D
It was a short week and coach Mike Mularkey was playing without some key players. Still, last night was a great example of how these two teams have gone in different directions since the Jaguars beat the Colts in Week 3. The Colts looked better in every aspect, while the Jaguars continue to slide. That's bad news for the franchise. The Texans already are significantly better than the Jaguars, and the Colts don't appear to be ready to drop off with Luck at the helm. Previous game's grade: D
