The Jaguars (2-9, 2-3 AFC South) got their second win of the season and their first home victory of the year in a 24-19 win over the Tennessee Titans (4-7) on Sunday.
No individual unit dominated the game, but all three phases played well enough to get the win.
Offense: A-
It wasn't an offensive explosion like we saw at Houston last week, but the Jaguars did enough to get the win. QB Chad Henne, making his first start in the place of the injured Blaine Gabbert (arm), threw for 260 yards, two TDs and one INT. His main targets were WR Cecil Shorts (4 catches, 105 yards, TD), WR Justin Blackmon (5 catches, 62 yards, TD) and TE Marcedes Lewis (4 catches, 56 yards). RBs Jalen Parmele and Rashad Jennings combined for 88 yards on 24 carries. Previous game's grade: A
Defense: B
The Jaguars bent, but they never completely broke on Sunday. The Titans moved the ball relatively well, but they had to settle for five FG attempts and only scored one TD. Explosive RB Chris Johnson was held to just 80 yards of rushing. Though the defense did allow the Titans to put together an easy scoring drive to pull the game within one score late, it got an INT from S Dwight Lowery to end what could've been a game-winning drive from the Titans with under three minutes left in the game. K Josh Scobee hit a 41-yard FG that gave the Jaguars a five-point lead with 24 seconds left in the game. P Bryan Anger helped flip the field position with five punts that averaged 47.2 yards per attempt. The Titans had no major punt or kick returns and newly acquired PR Jordan Shipley did a good job fielding the ball in his first action of the season for Jacksonville. Previous game's grade: C
Coaching: A
Nothing can change the fact that 2012 hasn't gone well for Jacksonville, but credit coach Mike Mularkey and his staff for keeping the team motivated despite being well out of playoff contention. The Jaguars only play one more team that currently has a winning record -- the New England Patriots (8-3) on Dec. 23 -- so there will be an opportunity to post a few more victories this season.
