After seeing major progress in the first two preseason games, the Jaguars were hammered by the Baltimore Ravens 48-17 in their third preseason game Thursday night in Baltimore.
There were a few bright spots on offense. QB Blaine Gabbert completed 11 of 21 passes for 117 yards. RB Rashad Jennings ran hard and finished the evening with 13 carries for 57 yards, but overall the Jaguars were overmatched, particularly on defense.
Here's a look at who helped their stock Thursday night, and who needs to step it up in the final preseason game:
Stock up:
1. WR Justin Blackmon: He had a rough start as a Jaguar with legal problems over the summer and a contract holdout, but he continues to remind the team why it picked him with the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL draft -- he makes big plays. He caught four passes for 72 yards (18 yards per catch) and had a long one of 27 on Thursday. At times, he has looked like the only true big-play threat on the offense in the preseason.
2. RB Jalen Parmele: He's battling for a spot on the roster, and he helped himself Thursday night. He was decent as a RB with five carries for 23 yards, but he looked explosive on kickoff returns, running two back over 40 yards to set the offense up with good field position. Excelling on special teams in the preseason is a great way to help a player make the roster, and that's exactly what he did Thursday.
3. LB Paul Posluszny: He's had a solid preseason, and he was very active on Thursday as well, getting in on seven tackles. The LBs were thin on Thursday with Daryl Smith and Clint Session missing the game due to injury, but Posluszny continues to show up and be productive. He's one of the most underrated players on the defense.
Stock down:
1. WR Laurent Robinson: Where is he? Yes, he's on the field, but Gabbert doesn't seem to be looking to him and he recorded zero catches on Thursday. It's only the preseason, but the fact that he's gone two straight weeks without a catch is a concern. The Jaguars paid him like a top NFL WR ($32.5 million); now it's time for him to start producing like one.
2. SECONDARY: It's hard to choose just one. The Ravens threw all over it. It gave up 450 yards and five touchdowns in total. The CBs had the worst night. Aaron Ross and Rashean Mathis are supposed to be competing for a starting spot, but both really struggled. Mathis was beat several times, while Ross missed numerous tackles.
3. QB Chad Henne: He hasn't looked sharp all preseason. Thursday was no exception. He was a very lackluster 5-of-10 passing for just 57 yards. Third-string QB Jordan Palmer didn't get a chance to play against the Ravens, but there have been times in the preseason where he has looked more like the second-best QB on the roster, not Henne.
