The Jacksonville Jaguars announced the addition of veteran S Chris Harris and the release of CB Kevin Rutland on Monday.
The move became necessary after S Dwight Lowery sprained his ankle against Chicago two weeks ago. He is expected to miss as many as three weeks.
Jacksonville also is looking to boost a pass defense that gives up an average of 261 ypg, 24th in the league.
Harris brings a veteran presence, as he's appeared in 96 games, with 88 starts during his time with Bears, Panthers and Lions.
A sixth-round pick of the Bears in 2005, Harris has 421 tackles, 16 interceptions, 13 forced fumbles, 37 pass deflections and nine fumble recoveries in his seven-year career. Last season, he split time between the Bears and Lions.
Rutland was a key reserve in Week 1 at Minnesota, but his role diminished after the overtime loss. He hasn't seen the field since sustaining a concussion Week 3 in Indianapolis.
