Veteran RB signed: In perhaps a sign that the Jaguars aren’t expecting RB Maurice Jones-Drew to show up any time soon, they announced that they signed RB Keith Toston on Thursday. Toston saw action in all 16 games for the Rams in 2010, rushing for 54 yards on 19 carries. He was cut by the Rams in the 2011 preseason and didn’t play last season.

TE Gijon Robinson was cut to make room for Toston.

Ross heading to London: CB Aaron Ross will be absent from practice Thursday through Saturday. He has a valid excuse. His wife, sprinter Sanya Richards-Ross, will be competing in the Olympics over the weekend. She is scheduled to run the 400-meter and the 200-meter sprints.

“This is a special organization,” Ross told the Jaguars’ official team website. “They didn’t hesitate when I asked them if I can go over. It shows you what type of team they’re trying to build over here. Family first, not every team is like that.”

Talks progressing with WR Blackmon: WR Justin Blackmon is the last 2012 draft pick still holding out, but talks between he and the organization are progressing, according to the Florida Times-Union.

The report indicates that one of the hangups in the negotiations has been over a clause the Jaguars want to include to protect themselves in case Blackmon has any more off-the-field incidents. Blackmon pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated DUI the week before the team reported to camp.

Injury update: WR Laurent Robinson underwent a series of concussion tests, but was cleared on Thursday and could return to practice Friday. DE Austen Lane went down in practice on Thursday with an apparent foot injury, according to Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser. Coach Mike Mularkey didn’t know the extent of Lane’s injury after practice Thursday.
