As the Eagles get ready for their second preseason game, the starting lineup on both sides of the ball is pretty well set, with one big difference. And in this case, big is meant literally and figuratively.
King Dunlap will start at left tackle when the Eagles play the New England Patriots on Monday night. Dunlap came into came as No. 2 LT behind Demetress Bell, whom the Eagles specifically signed to replace All-Pro Jason Peters, who will miss the entire season with a torn hamstring.
However, Bell has struggled learning the Eagles’ system and that really showed in the preseason opener against the Steelers. So, this week, Dunlap moved up and Bell moved down and now nobody is sure who will be the starter when the season starts for real on Sept. 9.
But one Eagles lineman made it clear that, for now at least, he’d rather line up with Dunlap than Bell. Center Jason Kelce has nothing personal against Bell, but he admits he’s more comfortable with Dunlap.
“He’s definitely more knowledgeable with the system, more knowledgeable with the techniques and he can make corrections much quicker,’’ Kelce said. “Through this part of training camp, King has played better.”
