Throughout the aftermath of the tragic car crash that killed her son -- Cowboys linebacker Jerry Brown -- Stacey Jackson has shown an amazing resilience and compassion for nose tackle Josh Brent, the man who has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in Brown’s death.
According to Dallas' WFAA-TV, via Fox Sports Southwest, she doesn’t even want Brent prosecuted.
"I've forgiven him, because he has enough on his plate with just reliving the whole thing over and over, and that's going to be for the rest of his life," Jackson said.
Reportedly, Brent had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 -- twice over the legal limit -- when he crashed his Mercedes earlier this month.
Jackson invited Brent to be with her during the memorial held for Brown in Dallas, and she said that she didn’t blame Brown for her son’s death.
"[Brent] just knew that I was going to blame him, or go off on him or hit him -- but, no," Jackson told the TV station on Friday. "Jerry would frown down on me if I did that, because that's not the way I raised him. … He wouldn't want you to blame yourself, because both of y'all didn't have seat belts. It was like a little burden lifted off [Brent]."
On Sunday, when the Cowboys play the Steelers, they will wear a helmet decal honoring Brown. Brent is on the team’s reserved non-football injury list and last week visited the team’s facilities. Coach Jason Garrett described him as "very distraught."
