Last week, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Rex Ryan weren't interested in entertaining questions about the possibility that Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis might consider holding out two years after signing a contract extension that followed -- you guessed it -- a lengthy holdout.

“Darrelle is under contract,” Tannenbaum said at the time. “Darrelle is obviously a really important part of our team. We're really looking forward to the 2012 season and, hopefully, accomplishing a lot of great things together. … I've said all I'm going to say about his contract."

And in response to a question about possibly re-working Revis' deal, Ryan said “I think first off, those conversations would be private, if they actually did take place.”

As of last Friday, no one had heard from Revis on the matter, but the question came up because when he signed his extension prior to the 2010 season here's what he said: “If I continue to play ball like I usually do, we'll probably be back at that same position we were this year.”

Revis, attending a Big Brothers Big Sisters event in New York City Monday, was finally asked about a possible holdout. According to the Newark Star-Ledger's Jenny Vrentas, the Jets cornerback said he "doesn't know" and that "that time hasn't come."

For now, his focus is on being a member of the Jets and he can't say what he'll do. "I just don't know. I'm not saying I'm going to hold out. … I'm not saying I won't," he said. "My agents are going to do what's best for me. … It's my career, and I'm in control of what I can do."

Revis clearly thinks he should be paid what he's worth and there's nothing wrong with that, especially since he's widely considered the league's best cornerback. And, yes, his current deal paid him a combined $32.5 million in 2010 and 2011, but the final two years is worth just $13.5 million. Given that Brandon Carr and Cortland Finnegan signed $50 million contract this offseason, it's reasonable to assume that Revis might want a raise. The only question is when.

"I know things have come out, and that’s that," he said. "But if anything does happen in the future of me being here or whatever, I have two years left. So if it’s for my future to be here, then it is. If it’s not, for me to be somewhere else, then it is. We’ll address that when the time comes."
