Jets S Eric Smith sprained his knee and practice and won't be playing Sunday against the Colts. (US Presswire) |
After injuring his hip and knee in the first preseason game (he subsequently missed the first four games of the regular season), S Eric Smith, sprained his knee in Wednesday's practice and will be out on Sunday against the Colts.
Coach Rex Ryan called it "a scary moment,"
NT Sione Po'uha, who has been battling tightness in his lower back since training camp and missed the last game, is questionable for the game. NT Kenrick Ellis will be out with an MCL injury, FB John Conner will be out with a hamstring injury and WR Clyde Gates will probably be out with a shoulder injury.
TE Dustin Keller is expected back after battling a hamstring injury for the past several weeks and Coach Rex Ryan said that WR Stephen Hill may return from his hamstring injuryl. Ryan also anticipates C Nick Mangold playing after spraining his ankle against the Texans. WR Jermey Kerley is playing with a splint on his finger and now has an illness.
Right now the wide receivers unit is operating with just two fully healthy receivers: Chaz Schilens and Jason Smith. Smith has been with the team for a little over a week.
The linebacking corps has taken its own hits. Bryan Thomas has been dealing with a hamstring injury for several weeks and now the team has lost backup LB Josh Mauga to a torn pectoral muscle. David Harris has a hamstring injury suffered in Wednesday's practice and Bart Scott has a toe injury.
If you add CB Darrelle Revis (ACL) and WR Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc on IR), the Jets have 10 starters who are either missing entirely or dealing with an injury that is hampering them significantly.
"I think we've had enough of these,"Ryan said.
