It was a difficult season for the Jets, who struggled all year and ended with a 6-10 record. There was an overall lack of playmakers in 2012, however there were a handful of standouts. Following are the RapidReports picks for the Jets 2012 MVPs.
Offense -- C Nick Mangold: Mangold: The three-time Pro Bowler was once again a solid force for the team in a season where offensive problems were ongoing. Mangold played every game and led an offensive line that helped RB Shonn Greene reach his second consecutive season with 1,000 rushing yards.
Defense -- CB Antonio Cromartie: When CB Darrelle Revis went down with a torn ACL, it was up to Cromartie to step up, and he did. Cromartie didn’t allow a 100-yard receiving game from any opponent until Week 17 (WR Stevie Johnson of the Bills with 111 yards), and he rendered some of the NFL’s top receivers almost completely ineffective. Cromartie
finished the season with 35 tackles and three interceptions, including one for a touchdown. He also had 13 passes defensed.
Cromartie was selected by his teammates as team MVP.
Special teams -- K Nick Folk: Folk was 21-26 in field goals, and he was one of the most consistent players on the team. He made three of four 50+ field goals. On kickoffs, 12 of 68 were touchbacks.
Newcomer –- S LaRon Landry: Landry battled a heel injury for the last two seasons with the Redskins so the signing by the Jets raised some eyebrows. However, once he took the field, all questions were put to rest. Landry finished the season with 99 tackles (second on the team after LB David Harris), two interceptions, a touchdown, eight passes defensed and four forced fumbles. He earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his six-year NFL career.
