New York Jets offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo spoke with the media for the first time in training camp on Wednesday. He said he's happy with his linemen, that they are "good, quality players."
OL Austin Howard has received much focus and praise from coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordiantor Tony Sparano, and DeGuglielmo, who spent the last three years in Miami as offensive line coach when Sparano was head coach, concurred.
"He's much better than in the spring," he said, calling Howard "a rare talent" in his physicality coming off the ball.
The presumed starters -- LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, LG Matt Slauson, C Nick Mangold, RG Brandon Moore and RT Wayne Hunter -- have not worked together for most of camp.
Mangold spent several days at the Olympics, Moore went to Canton for Curtis Martin's Hall of Fame induction and Hunter has been battling a lower back injury.
Ryan said Hunter is expected to play on Saturday against the Giants and DeGuglielmo said, "I just want to see them work as a unit."
