The New York Jets quarterback nightmares continue.

Quarterback Greg McElroy disclosed to the Jets training staff Thursday morning that he had suffered a concussion in last Sunday's game against the Chargers. McElroy was sacked 11 times.

"You're not going to believe this one," coach Rex Ryan said as he took the podium for his daily press conference.

According to Ryan, McElroy was lifting on Thursday morning when he started to experience light-headedness and headaches. He went to head trainer John Mellody and informed him that he started experiencing issues after the game. Mellody, together with McElroy, went directly to Ryan to inform him at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Ryan described his reaction as "stunned."

"The worse thing that could have happened is he could have gone out there with nobody knowing how he felt and hurt himself," Ryan said.

"The fact that he was truthful eventually, hopefully it’ll be an example to other players that you’re hurting yourself."

Ryan said he plans to address the situation with the team after practice to re-emphasize the importance of them reporting injuries that may not always be apparent to the training or medical staff.

Ryan has ruled out McElroy for Sunday's game against the Bills. Mark Sanchez will regain his starting role and Tim Tebow will be the backup.

When asked if McElroy had tried to argue with him about the decision, Ryan said, "I never gave him that (chance)."

McElroy is currently being evaluated according to the NFL head-injury protocol.

McElroy, in his second season, was named the starter for the Chargers game following Ryan's decision to bench Sanchez after he threw five interceptions against Jacksonville in a season that has seen him throw a total of 17 interceptions and only 13 touchdowns.

As for his overall reaction to this season and whether it's the strangest one he's ever experienced, Ryan said, "I would say that's pretty accurate."
