Quarterback Mark Sanchez and the Jets couldn’t hold their heads high after they got hammered by the Patriots on Thanksgiving. (US Presswire) |
It was a game that is hard to describe if you didn’t see it. And even then, it’s hard to explain. Everything that could go wrong did.
Five turnovers killed them. The Jets are 4-7. Playoffs? You have to think a lot of changes are going to be made with this team when the season is over, but they still have five more games to try to get through.
Offense: F
Somehow QB Mark Sanchez ended up with 301 yards passing and a rating of 94 but that was an anomaly. The Jets literally couldn’t get out of their own way, with Sanchez running into RG Brandon Moore's backside on one play, causing him to fumble. The play will live on highlight reels for eternity. The two touchdowns they put up almost seemed miraculous given the comedy of errors with five turnovers just the tip of the iceberg. Draw plays against Patriots NT Vince Wilfork? Defense: F
QB Tom Brady had the Jets' number all night and exposed every weakness. Coach Rex Ryan wants the Jets to have the NFL’s best defense, but you can’t be that when you allow your opponent to put up 475 yards of total offense. Brady was 18 of 28 for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns and wasn’t sacked. Previous game’s grade A-
Special teams: D+
As usual, K Nick Folk did his job, but that was about it. RB Joe McKnight fumbled a kick return that was returned for a touchdown. Previous game’s grade: B-
Coaching: F
Since Week 1, Ryan said the Jets are improving and just need to get a few things fixed; that good teams get better as the season goes on. The Jets aren’t getting better. Once the offense gets down, they have no ability to come back. The defense looks tired and out-matched. Special teams continues to exhibit weaknesses they haven’t in the past. Previous game’s grade: B+
