The New York Jets came away with their second win in two weeks, beating the Jaguars 17-10 in Jacksonville. The offense, with beleaguered QB Mark Sanchez at the helm, held up their end of the bargain and re-instilled some confidence in the unit.
Offense: B-
Coming off the first benching of his career, and while not giving a spectacular performance, Sanchez did what was asked of him -- manage the game efficiently and not turn the ball over. He went 12 of 19 for 111 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He did fumble once. RBs Bilal Powell and Shonn Greene, who each had a touchdown, kept the running game going and the team finished the game with a total of 166 yards on the ground. Previous game’s grade: D+
Defense: A-
The Jets continued what they started against the Cardinals, allowing the Jaguars offense to convert on just 2 of 16 third down conversion attempts. They allowed just one score, in the fourth quarter. They also intercepted QB Chad Henne twice, including one by CB Ellis Lankster on the final drive in the red zone, sealing the win. Previous game’s grade: A
Special teams: B+
This unit came back to life after several weeks in which they saw blocked punts, blocked field goals and a fake punt. K Nick Folk made his only field goal attempt -- a 44-yarder. Previous game’s grade: C-
Coaching: B-
Why coach Rex Ryan chose to activate a still not-fullly-healthy QB Tim Tebow (ribs) and de-activate QB Greg McElroy, who led them to a win against the Cardinals, was puzzling. However, the offensive game plan helped Sanchez by focusing on the running game. The defensive game plan continues to be spot on. Previous game’s grade: B-
