It looks like Jets placekicker Nick Folk and punter Robert Malone are going to have some competition this offseason.
The Jets added two specialists on Friday in the form of of former Illinois placekicker Derek Dimke and former Boston College punter Ryan Quigley.
Dimke signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent last April and played in three preseason games with the Lions before being cut in late August in favor of Jason Hanson. Dimke hit both of his field goal attempts with the Lions, including a 40-yarder against Cleveland in Week 1 of the preseason.
Dimke will be looking to unseat Folk, who converted only 77.8 percent of his field goals last season (21 of 27), a number that ranked 30th in the league among kickers with 10 or more field goal attempts. The Jets recently re-signed Folk to only a one-year deal.
As for Quigley, he originally signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent and made the team's 53-man roster because of an injury to starter Adam Podlesh. However, Podlesh returned for the Bears' 2012 season opener and Quigley was later released.
Quigley will be looking to replace Malone, who averaged 45.8 yards per punt last season, ranking 18th in the league. In four preseason games with the Bears last year, Quigley averaged 41.4 yards on 16 punts.
