The New York Jets have several players not playing against the Giants. The wide
receiving corps remains thin with Santonio Holmes (rib cartilage),
Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) and Chaz Schilens (ankle) sidelined.
Holmes and Kerley missed the first preseason game against the Bengals,
which was where Schilens hurt his ankle. The Jets have said they hope
Holmes and Kerley will be ready for the opener. Kerley may be ready
sooner. The timetable for Schilens is unclear.
S Eric Smith is out with a sprained MCL, which he injured in
Cincinnati. NT Sione Pouha is dealing with tightness in his lower
back. He missed the first preseason game because he had stitches in
his forehead. The Jets hope he will be ready for the season opener.
LB Ricky Sapp has missed most of training camp with an ankle injury.
Dennis Landolt injured his knee in practice last week and is expected
to miss a couple more weeks. CB Ryan Steed will also be inactive
against the Giants, although it is unclear why.
