So yeah. The Ravens are terrible, Joe Flacco looks more like Kyle Boller than a franchise quarterback, and mounting injuries could mean the misery will continue unabated.
A microcosm of the season can be captured in one head-scratching play against the 49ers, perhaps the worst throw of Flacco's football career -- at any level.
That, folks, is an arm punt for the ages.
"The gift as you talk about are one of the most nervous ones to catch because the ball is kind of hanging for a while," 49ers defensive back Kenneth Acker said after the game.
Like, say, a punt.
Meanwhile, Flacco explained what he was trying to do, via ESPN.com. "I was looking to hit the shot over the top. I was hoping to buy time on the play, and it got to the point where I didn’t see anyone open, so I was just trying to throw it away. I didn’t see anyone down the field, but it ended up being a really dumb play.”
Somebody even thought to ask coach John Harbaugh if Flacco's interceptions hurt the team.
"What do you want me to say? What’s the answer to that question? They hurt us a lot," Harbaugh said. "Okay, I mean, I can’t put a percentage on it. They hurt us a lot. Turnovers are bad.”
To be fair, it's not like Flacco has much to work with. Yes, there's the ageless Steve Smith, but beyond that, Flacco is completing passes to the likes of Jeremy Ross, Kamar Aiken, Marlon Brown and recently acquired Chris Givens.
Flacco has seven interceptions on the season, which is tied for fourth-most behind Peyton Manning (10), Matthew Stafford (9) and Kirk Cousins (8).
