During Saturday night's Redskins-Bears preseason game, Skins supporters found themselves holding their collective breath as a linebacking corps -- already missing London Fletcher for unknown reasons -- lost Brian Orakpo to an injury. They can exhale, though, as CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora reports that neither player is dealing with a severe injury.
Orakpo, who's led Washington in sacks each of the past three seasons, found himself in coverage on Devin Hester, tried to make a tackle after Hester caught the ball and left the game as a result of injuring his left pectoral.
This was the same pectoral that Orakpo injured last year, something Mike Shanahan confirmed after the game. However, sources tell La Canfora that the initial determination of the injury is that it was only a sprain and might involve some old scar tissue.
“I don’t think it’s nothing too serious, but we just have to play it by ear. We’ll get an MRI in the morning, and then we’ll know,” Orakpo said after the game. “You get those type of injuries, little hyper-extension when you try to arm-tackle. You get an uncomfortable type of feeling... But I really don’t know anything right now. My strength is good right now, so I don’t think it’ll be a long process."
Veteran linebacker London Fletcher did not play in Chicago, and coach Mike Shanahan was non committal about why, but sources said it was rest more than anything else, and Fletcher will be back on the field shortly.
