Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is running out of money, attorney John Fitzpatrick told a judge in New Bedford, Mass., on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.
Hernandez, who was convicted in April in the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, is low on money as his legal fees are piling up, Fitzpatrick said. He also said Hernandez was paid for only one year of his terminated $40 million contract with the Patriots.
"Despite some pretty wild and baseless speculative allegations made about piles of money, there are no piles of money," said Fitzpatrick, who added Hernandez is supporting his fiancee --Shayanna Jenkins -- and the couple's 2-year-old daughter.
Lloyd's mother, Ursula Ward, has sued Hernandez. Her lawyers are trying to track down his assets and court records indicate she could be awarded more than $5 million.
Hernandez has also been charged in a 2012 double murder case in Boston and is facing a witness intimidation charge in Florida stemming from a 2013 incident.
The former NFL tight end was also reportedly involved recently in a prison incident, where he played the role of lookout for a group of inmates involved in a fight. Hernandez and two other prisoners are going to be disciplined for the fight, according to CNN.
