Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Thursday that starting middle linebacker Rolando McClain would face "consequences" for his "actions" but declined to offer details.
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported Wednesday that, according to team sources, McClain had a heated discussion with Allen early in practice and was sent off the field and home. McClain, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2010 draft, was not at practice Thursday but remained on the roster.
Allen declined to say whether there was a confrontation Wednesday or to specify what "actions" he was referring to.
"Really nothing more [to report] than we asked him not to come to practice today," Allen said. "There’s going to be consequences to his actions and it’s a team-related issue. I don’t really want to get into the details of it."
On Wednesday, McClain wrote on his Facebook page that he was, "Officially no longer an Oakland Raider. Well, technically I am. But I'm mentally done. Just waiting on my papers."
Allen was asked if McClain had been suspended.
"We have not done anything other than ask him not to come to practice," Allen said.
Allen was also asked why the team hadn't made a decision regarding McClain.
"This is something that we've got to make a decision on as an organization, and we're going to make sure that we make the right decision," Allen said.
If McClain is not an option for Sunday's game against Cleveland, Omar Gaither, a former Eagle and Panther, would start at middle linebacker, Allen said.
"He’s a veteran player," Allen said. "He understands football. He’s started a lot of games in his career. He’s a guy who’s played. He’s picked up the defense. We have confidence he’ll be able to go if that’s needed."
