Live scores, highlights and updates from the Lions vs. Washington Football Team
Game Recap
After losing to the Washington Football Team the last time they met, the Detroit Lions decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Detroit skirted past Washington 30-27. Having forecasted a close win for the Lions, the oddsmakers were right on the money.
Detroit relied on the efforts of QB Matthew Stafford, who passed for three TDs and 276 yards on 33 attempts, and RB D'Andre Swift, who snatched one receiving TD. Near the top of the highlight reel was Stafford's 55-yard TD bomb to WR Marvin Hall in the first quarter. Detroit also relied on the talents of K Matt Prater, whose three field goals, the longest a 59-yard boot in the fourth quarter, proved pivotal in the final score.
Special teams collected 12 points for Detroit. Prater delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
A silver lining for Washington was the play of RB Antonio Gibson, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. That's the most rushing touchdowns Gibson has had all year.
The victory bumped the Lions' record up to 4-5. This is the second loss in a row for Washington and nudges their record down to 2-7.
Detroit will take on the Carolina Panthers at 1 p.m. ET next week at Bank of America Stadium. Carolina is limping into the contest on a five-game losing streak. Washington will look to defend their home turf next week against the Cincinnati Bengals at 1 p.m. ET.
