While Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha got the opportunity to speak at an event for President Obama in Oakland on Monday, the president took his own opportunity to send a message to Michael Vick. He made sure to use Asomugha as the delivery boy.
“He told me,” Asomugha said (via the Philadelphia Inquirer), “to tell Vick to slide.”
Funny guy, that president. But of course, it’s good advice for Vick, considering he’s missed a combined seven games in the past two seasons because of injuries (some of which occurred when Vick was scrambling away from trouble). And Vick has talked in the past about taking it easy and keeping himself clean of defenders who want to put him out of the game.
But unless the president unveils some kind of executive order or gets Congress to weigh in on this matter, it’s unlikely Vick will heed Obama’s advice. He’s a playmaker, for better or for worse, and if he really wants to stay healthy, he’ll retire and start his second career.
As a clothes salesman perhaps?
UPDATED 6:17 p.m. ET: It seems that Vick has received the message from Asomugha.
If the President of the U.S is saying I need to slide then I really need to start sliding. Lol. Thanks Mr. President!
