Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings may not be ready for a big leap but says he thinks he’ll be ready to play Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. (US Presswire) |
When the Packers returned to practice Tuesday after their three-day weekend, coach Mike McCarthy proclaimed the team “very healthy.” They had few injuries of note, most players were rested and recovered from their two-games-in-five-days stretch the week before and they had an extra day to prepare for their Monday Night Football game at Seattle.
On Friday, a foot-dragging senator could read Green Bay’s injury report to filibuster a vote. There were 11 names on it, including notable players such as WR Greg Jennings, RG Josh Sitton and WR/returner Randall Cobb.
Fortunately, none of the injuries appear serious. Only one player, ILB Jamari Lattimore, sat out completely.
Jennings’ status will be the most carefully monitored. He hurt his groin in the season opener, missed last week’s win over the Bears and did not participate at practice Thursday. He was limited on Friday and McCarthy said he was able to do some team drills. He’s going through the rehab process, the coach said, and the team will see how he feels on Saturday.
After practice, Jennings said he wouldn’t be 100 percent by Monday, but, “right now, in my mind, I’m up, I’m ready to go. I can perform to my level of performance."
TE Tom Crabtree is nursing a shoulder injury that McCarthy said probably wasn’t going away anytime soon. McCarthy said Crabtree’s shoulder is “something he’s going to be dealing with for quite some time because we just don’t have the time to sit and heal it.”
RB James Starks has been sidelined with turf toe since the preseason opener more than a month ago. He returned to practice in a limited capacity this week, and McCarthy said he’s getting better.
“It’s a very painful injury; it’s something he has to work through,” McCarthy said, adding that he didn’t have a timetable for Starks’ return.
CB Davon House, who has been wearing a harness to protect the shoulder he dislocated in preseason, is “getting more comfortable,” according to McCarthy. “We have a few [cornerbacks] that are pushing through injuries,” McCarthy said. “I feel like we have good depth.”
