New England tight end Aaron Hernandez has a 50-50 chance of playing Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
He returned to practice Thursday, a little more than two weeks removed from an ankle sprain, and is listed as questionable for Week 5.
Hernandez has moved well in the sessions, showing good speed without a noticeable limp, though coach Bill Belichick was unwilling to shed any light on his status when pressed for details Friday.
"Good to see him back out there," Belichick said. "We'll just take it day-to-day and see what we end up with."
Hernandez suffered a low-ankle sprain during the first quarter of a Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The initial prognosis had him out for at least four weeks.
If Hernandez is unable to play, Daniel Fells would likely start in his place.
Tom Brady (right shoulder) was removed from the injury report. Edelman (hand) and S Steve Gregory (hip) have been ruled out.
TE Rob Gronkowski (hip) is listed as questionable for the second consecutive week. He caught five passes for 104 yards and a touchdown last week against Buffalo.
