While he was watching his team’s eventual 28-13 loss to the Ravens on Sunday from the New England sidelines, Patriots safety Derrick Martin's home was being burglarized. According to the Denver Post, two robber broke into Martin’s home, located in Aurora, Co., and took “numerous items of value.”
"We don't know if he was specifically targeted or not," Frank Fania, spokesman for the Aurora police, told the newspaper. "There was nothing said during the robbery that would indicate that."
The intruders broke into the house about 8:05 p.m., and police said that at least one adult and several children were in the home at the time. Police said none of them could provide a solid description of the robbers.
"No shots were fired; no threats were made," Fania said. "Thankfully, no one was hurt."
Still, this is a scary situation for Martin -- who was inactive Sunday -- and for every other player in the league. The first thing I thought about when I saw the report was Sean Taylor -- who was killed when robbers broke into his house. Even if Martin wasn't targeted specifically, this is yet another reminder that NFL players’ riches potentially make them targets for break-ins like this.
