On the heels of Peyton Manning's outstanding Sunday night season opener, it was reasonble to think he'd come out hot against the Falcons on Monday night as well. That wasn't the case at all, with Manning tossing picks on the Broncos' first three possessions and generally looking quite un-Manning like.
Well, maybe not: Little bro Eli also threw three picks this week before leading the Giants to a comeback over the Buccaneers. So maybe it's not that bad a sign.
Also, just like Eli, Peyton fell awkwardly out from under center!
Of course, Peyton's was just a mistake, and one of many awkward gaffes that happened on the first three possessions by Denver.
Obviously the bigger issue is Manning not reading the defense correctly and, obviously, this means everyone needs to freak out about Manning not being back and not being able to make all the throws. Or, alternately, let the game play out and see what happens.
It is, however, terrifying that Manning threw two of those picks basically without reading the location of the Falcons safeties (both Thomas DeCoud and William Moore picked a ball) and then threw the third one on a seam route that you would almost never see Manning get on beat by the defense.
