Prince Amukamara hasn’t had a great preseason.
First, continuing an ongoing theme, the Giants cornerback was carried from the locker room and dumped into a cold tub by his teammate Jason Pierre-Paul. Second, it was caught on tape. Third, punter Steve Weatherford put the video online. Fourth, Amukamara had to answer questions about his toughness and why his teammates seemingly were picking on the second-year player like he was a rookie.
And now, on Friday, he was carted off the field late in the first quarter of the Bears-Giants preseason game with a leg injury after Brandon Marshall made an eight-yard catch. Almost immediately after Amukamara left the game, his replacement, Bruce Johnson, was burned by Marshall on a 21-yard touchdown.
Amukamara had X-rays taken on his lower right leg, but according to reports, those X-rays were negative. His return to the game is questionable. He later was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.
Amukamara was slated to be one of the team’s top corners. Losing him for a significant amount of time, just like last season when he broke his foot, would not be good.
