Discussions about a contract extension between left tackle Ryan Clady and the Broncos have broken off, The Denver Post reported Monday. The Broncos had hoped to have the two-time Pro Bowler under a long-term contract by Monday, but negotiations broke off. 

The Broncos could place the franchise tag on Ryan Clady to keep him around next year.  The franchise tag was $9.383 million for an offensive lineman in 2012 and is expected to be about the same next year. That would be comparable to the one-year cap figure the Broncos would have expected to have for Clady. The Broncos' last offer to him was reportedly for $50 million over five years.

Although Clady tore a patellar tendon while playing basketball during the 2010 offseason, the 2008 first-round pick has been durable; he has never missed a regular-season game.
