Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp's second stint with the Oakland Raiders ended Monday after just one disappointing season when he was fired, along with three other assistants.

The Raiders announced Knapp, special teams coordinator Steve Hoffman, offensive line coach Frank Pollack and linebackers coach Johnny Holland were fired.

"Decisions like this are very difficult," Raiders coach Dennis Allen said in a statement. "I have a great deal of respect for all of these men and I appreciate their contributions to the Oakland Raiders this season.”

The Raiders under Knapp finished 18th in total offense compared to ninth last year under fired coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Al Saunders, who served this year as a senior offensive assistant.

Knapp's offense ranked No. 8 in passing, a jump of three spots from 2011, but it finished a dismal 28th in rushing, a drop of 21 spots from last season.

Knapp installed a zone blocking scheme, and running back Darren McFadden, who favors a power attack, struggled from the outset to adjust. He carried 216 times for only 707 yards -- tied for 24th in the NFL -- and averaged only 3.3 yards per carry.

The Raiders scored only 290 points and averaged just 18.1 points per game, 26th out of the 32 teams. Last year they scored 359 points and ranked 16th.

The Raiders struggled throughout the season in the red zone and on third down. They were also plagued by slow starts.

Knapp served as Raiders offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008 but lost his playcalling to coach Tom Cable midway through the '08 campaign.

Pollack spent the previous five seasons as Houston's assistant offensive line coach. Under Pollack, the Raiders offensive line struggled to adapt to the zone blocking scheme.

The Raiders' special teams struggled throughout the season under Hoffman. In Sunday's season finale, San Diego's Micheal Spurlock returned the opening kick 99 yards for a touchdown. The Raiders also got burned by a fake punt.
