The Oakland Raiders broke training camp Thursday afternoon in Napa after their 19th practice and hit the road back to team headquarters in Alameda.
“I thought it was good work,” Raiders rookie coach Dennis Allen said. “I thought we had a chance to get better. Our guys worked extremely hard. We still have a long way to go and a lot of things we have to continue to improve on, but I thought it was a good foundation to build on.
“I enjoyed it. I think we have a great situation here in Napa. This is, as far as the setup, the best training camp I’ve ever been a part of. The weather’s been great, the hotel has been outstanding. That’s been good. I think our work has been good. I was pleased with what we did here in training camp.”
Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly called Camp Allen, “Grueling but fair.”
“It’s been tough, probably the hardest camp I’ve ever had, but I’m in good shape, so I don’t have any complaints.”
Seymour update: Starting DT Richard Seymour missed practice again because of sore knees and said his availability Saturday against Detroit will be a “game-time decision.”
“I just want to be smart,” Seymour said. “I’m not one to say preseason games don’t matter. I definitely think they matter. They build your foundation in terms of getting ready for the season. They’re definitely important games, but we’ll do what’s best for the team.”
Seymour missed the exhibition opener but played Friday night at Arizona. He has not practiced since facing the Cardinals.
Extra points: TEs Tory Humphrey (hamstring) and Richard Gordon (ribs) missed practice and will be game-time decisions Saturday night, Allen said. … WR Jacoby Ford missed practice and was still wearing a walking boot on his sprained left foot. … Starting center Stefen Wisniewski (calf) missed practice again, meaning it’s all but official that he’ll miss his second straight game and that Alex Parsons will start again in his place. … WR Denarius Moore (hamstring), OT Ed Wang (shoulder), OT Zach Hurd (head), DT Jamie Cumbie (foot), LB Aaron Curry (knees) and FB Rashawn Jackson (hip) remained sidelined.
