The clock is ticking for wide receiver Derek Hagan, who re-signed Thursday with the Raiders. By Monday night when the Raiders face San Diego in their season-opener, Hagan has to know the playbook and Greg Knapp’s offense -- just in case he’s needed.

“I definitely expect myself to learn the whole playbook,” Hagan said after practice. “Obviously, this is what I do, this is my job, this is my profession. If I got to learn it in three days that’s fine with me. It’s definitely going to be a cram session.”

The Raiders signed Hagan to add depth to a position that has been hit hard by injuries. Jacoby Ford hasn’t practiced since spraining his left foot on Aug. 17 against Arizona. Denarius Moore practiced Thursday for the first time since re-injuring his right hamstring on Aug. 4. He was limited, and so was rookie WR Juron Criner, who sprained an ankle in the preseason finale against Seattle.

“Obviously, we want to have contingency plans if guys aren’t able to play,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “We brought him in, he did a nice job, and I think he’ll be ready to go if we need to call on him on Monday night.”

Hagan caught 11 passes for 114 yards in six games with two starts for the Raiders last season, but he was released in November to make room on the 53-man roster for wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Hagan said he was surprised but certainly not shocked when he got cut last year.

“That stuff happens,” he said. “I’m definitely not the first guy to get cut, and I’m not the last. It’s happened to thousands of guys before me. It’s just one of those things you got to deal with, and you got to move on. I just told myself, ‘You got to keep working because you never know what could happen.' You got to move on and learn from it, and hopefully the next place you go, things will be different.”

Hagan played the final four games last season for Buffalo, but he was released in the final cut, opening the door for his second stint with Oakland.

Hagan and Raiders QB Carson Palmer spent only a few weeks together last year.

“I just remember him being really consistent,” Palmer said. “A seven-year vet that understands the offense surprisingly well already. Hasn’t even been here 24 hours. I’ve been really surprised to see how well he’s picked things up in his first practice because there’s tons of different formations and shifts and motions. He’s done a real good job in Day 1, just really consistent.”

Practice shift: The Raiders moved their Saturday practice from morning at Alameda to evening at the O.co Coliseum as they prepare their minds and bodies for Monday night’s game.

“I’ve done that before and had success doing that,” Allen said.

Palmer said he likes the idea of practicing under the lights and at the Coliseum, which the Raiders share with the Oakland A’s and which still has the dirt infield section.

“It will be good,” Palmer said. “Just to get under the lights and have receivers have to worry about the lights when they’re catching balls. And the more times you get out on that field and work on the dirt and the transition from the dirt to the grass -- it’s good for us and it’s an advantage for us because we’ve played and practiced on it now a handful of times.”

Last year when the Raiders prepared for their Monday night game at Denver, former coach Hue Jackson had them practice most of the week under temporary lights at team headquarters in Alameda. The Raiders won that game 23-20.

Extra points: Former Raiders CB DeMarcus Van Dyke reportedly signed with Pittsburgh. … C Stefen Wisniewski, who missed most of training camp with a calf injury, practiced fully. He continued to work with the second team, behind Alex Parsons, but Allen has not named a starting center for Monday night. … K Sebastian Janikowski returned to practice after missing a day to be with his wife and newborn twin girls. He missed the preseason finale (left groin) but practiced fully, as did TE David Ausberry (shoulder) and TE Brandon Myers (shoulder). … Richard Seymour (knee) and G Cooper Carlisle (back) were limited in practice.
