Baltimore is fairly set in its two-deep for 2012. But there are a few competition battles for final spots on the 53-man roster.

Just about all of the big names are safe. This is a completely different situation than the 2011 preseason, when RB Willis McGahee, TE Todd Heap, WR Derrick Mason and DT Kelly Gregg were all released the day before training camp opened.

However, this situation could be seen as tougher as there's a chance the Ravens will be forced to release some players who are rich in potential this year.

  • Tommy Streeter (WR, rookie, sixth round draft pick in 2012) -- Baltimore likes to hang on to its draft picks, taking pride in the guys it selects. But it's hard to argue Streeter has had a more impressive preseason than undrafted rookie Deonte Thompson, who's shown more versatility and polish with his game. Streeter possesses a lot of upside, being 6-5 and 220 pounds with tremendous straight-line speed. His route running remains raw and he hasn't broken too many big plays in practice.
  • Chykie Brown (CB, second year, fifth round draft pick in 2011) -- The Ravens could keep seven cornerbacks on their roster if they decide they want to bring back Brown. Brown's turned up his level of play in practice lately, particularly on special teams. He's someone the organization could use at the gunner position, so his release could be tough. However, when it comes to the cornerback position, the Ravens have, at minimum, five players ahead of Brown. If Brown makes this roster it'll be because of his ability to play special teams.
  • Anthony Allen (RB, second year, seventh round draft pick in 2011) --  When Ricky Williams retired, Allen became the de facto No. 2 running back. Even when Baltimore drafted Bernard Pierce in the third round of the 2012 draft, Allen was still given a chance to retain the backup running back spot. Allen opened training camp slow and is now in danger of losing his roster spot. His pass blocking has been suspect and it doesn't appear he's seeing the play develop when he receives a carry. Allen will need a strong performance in each of the final two preseason games in order to remain on Baltimore's roster this season.
