Since John Harbaugh became Baltimore's head coach in 2008, the offense has heavily featured the running game.
But on Thursday, running back Ray Rice admitted things could change this year. Though he still expects to receive plenty of touches, the offense is no longer predicated around Rice and the running game.
"It's Joe's offense and then everybody else," Rice said. "He's proven that this preseason with how he's played, his tempo and how vocal he is. The quiet Joe phase is pretty much over. He's been outspoken and I guess you guys get to see it more, going into year five."
The Ravens have installed an uptempo, no-huddle offense this offseason and Flacco expects for it to stay the same during the regular season.
Baltimore led the NFL in total yards per game this preseason by averaging 390.5. Though preseason statistics don't mean much, Baltimore's offense looked in sync with Flacco making calls at the line of scrimmage.
"I expect that's what we are going to be doing this season and I think we will do it well," Flacco said. "We're just growing. We are going to get better and better at it."
Ed Reed answers to one: If safety Ed Reed gets dinged up in the middle of a game and is slow to rise up off the turf, he's not worried about what anyone but one person has to say.
That would be his mother.
"My mama's at home watching that and she's more worried than anybody than my biggest critics because she doesn't want me laying on the ground either," Reed said.
Reed has yet to receive surgery for a nerve impingement on the left side of his neck and shoulder. Reed still feels the pain but is determined to play another 16 games this year.
"When you've played this game for so long, or sports for so long, they take a toll on your body," Reed said. "That's what we're putting on the line."
