Ravens OL Kelechi Osemele is quickly beginning to show why Baltimore snagged him with the 60th overall pick in this year's draft.
During practice on Monday, Osemele put in another strong effort. At one point, he pancaked outside linebacker Sergio Kindle. Other outside linebackers Paul Kruger and Albert McClellan have had troubles getting past the rookie from Iowa State, too.
For the time being, Osemele is running with the first team at right tackle. However, left tackle Bryant McKinnie fully participated in practice Monday and could move Osemele back to the second team. Michael Oher still received the majority of the reps at starting left tackle, though McKinnie also got some reps with the top unit.
Five players leave practice: Just 15 minutes into practice, right guard Marshal Yanda jogged off the field. He never returned, though coach John Harbaugh said he excused him from practice. Harbaugh also excused receiver Jacoby Jones from practice midway through, saying he had done enough.
However, defensive end Pernell McPhee left practice, and it's unknown whether it was injury related or not. McPhee had offseason arthroscopic knee surgery and only recently returned to practice. Running back Anthony Allen and linebacker Jameel McClain also left practice early.
Harbaugh offers condolences: Harbaugh reached out to former boss Andy Reid following the death of his son Garrett on Sunday morning. Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator and secondary coach from 1998-2007.
"All things work for the good for those who love God," Harbaugh said. "That's where the Reids are."
